Let it be known that one of my students, not knowing what the word 'celibate' meant, rang me tonight; at the end of the conversation, after establishing that neither of us had any plans other than schoolwork, and intending to be erudite, he said "to quote from Earnest, Miss K, I suppose a passionate celibacy is all that either of us can look forward to."
It took considerable time for me to regain my composure.
